Tips for using myMAPP/faculty for Annual Review
- Focus on entering what is needed for Annual Review.
Faculty have been asked to submit an electronic Annual Review which means that only those activities related to teaching, research and creative activity, and service for the last year must be entered.
- Enter activities for the timeframe outlined in Academic Affairs Annual Review instructions.
Annual Review timeframe is March to March. This includes course evaluations for Spring 07, Summer 07 and Fall 07.
- Some special characters may not copy/paste from a word processor into myMAPP properly.
Characters such as the Microsoft smart quotes “and” along with the < and > symbols and the – elongated dash have been known to cause problems when copied and pasted from Microsoft Word into myMAPP’s text boxes. If you need to use these characters it is best to type them into myMAPP directly. You can also use the Word Paste button to reduce errors. The button can be found on the web editor tool bar.
- When setting up Shared Groups it is important to set up those groups carefully because of the feedback method.
All members of a Share Group will be able to see the feedback given by all other members of that group. Because of this feedback method it may be necessary to setup multiple Share Groups for the same Annual Review.
- Feedback is controlled similar to a discussion board or a blog.
The owner of the shared view is in control of who can read and/or give feedback to a shared view; who can forward a shared view; and who can archive a shared view. Feedback privileges are granted to each person in the Share Group and are controlled by a series of check boxes. To grant read-only privileges, do not check any of the privileges boxes.
- As with any new software application, use soon after training reinforces the learning.
Faculty have found it helpful to start entering information early. According to the instructions provided by Academic Affairs, faculty must submit their Annual Reviews to chairs by February 22, 2008. Thus Annual Review activities must be entered into myMAPP in time to create a view and share it with the chair prior to that date.
- As with any software program save your work frequently.
Because faculty requested that myMAPP/faculty not be left open indefinitely, a 90-minute time limit was implemented. Typing/composing within the myMAPP text box of an entry or reflection is not recognized as “action” so it does not reset the 90-minute time out clock. In cases where a person is editing for long periods of time within the text box, it is important to save that entry frequently. Another option would be to compose long descriptions and reflections in Word (you will still need to save frequently). These can be cut and pasted into the myMAPP text boxes. (Faculty who have been timed out during training were working on a lab desktop that has a time out set for 10 minutes.)
- As with other software programs, inactivity on myMAPP may result in the screen display reverting to a desktop screen saver. This has led some faculty to assume that myMAPP information has been lost.
Display of a screen saver due to short periods of inactivity does not indicate loss of myMAPP information.
- Save options are available for every action (enter, reflect, attach, etc.) within myMAPP to ensure that all information is saved as it is entered.
The Messages page serves as a summary page of activity, thus a save option is not necessary.
- myMAPP works best with specific web browsers.
Firefox 2.x is the preferred browser when working with myMAPP. Internet Explorer 7.x also works. If using an older version of Firefox 1.5.x or Internet Explorer 6.x all features may not work as well as moving to Firefox 2.x or Internet Explorer 7.x
Macintosh Browsers
Firefox 2.x is the only browser when working with myMAPP.
To install a browser go to UNO’s Install Server. Use your UNO Net ID to access this server (http://install.unomaha.edu).
